When you are creating or planning an event, the theme can be considered the brand of the event. A video by Chris Dessi, entitled Remarkable You: Re-Boot, Re-Align, and Re-Imagine Your Career explains some great ways to build your personal brand. So to connect these two statements, when putting on an event it’s important to get the word out about the event, (assuming it’s not by invitation only) and the same ways you build a personal brand, can help you build the brand of your event! Chris Dessi says that when we want to advertise we no longer have to pay tons of money to radios, movie companies, etc. to make or distribute our content. Instead we can create videos, and podcasts ourselves and post them on Facebook, and other large distribution type networks. This is a great way to advertise for your event, and to help you build your brand as an Event Planner, or as a person who at least has a talent for planning events.
Another very useful and effective way of building the brand of your event, is through social media, and it’s “real time” capabilities. By this I mean that social media provides a way to share live videos, it provides a way to share pictures of the event prep as it’s happening, and as the event is happening. It’s a huge asset to be able to share things in the moment, because it makes it feel so much more real, and authentic. One important thing to note is that you need to be passionate about your event, and or the people involved. How much you support and care about the event is going to show in your advertising efforts. Chris Dessi states how important it is to use social media, and digital marketing, so connect with people in real life.
So don’t just post that your event is happening, share pictures, and then have no connection between the digital marketing, and the real event. Use both to boost and support each other, and build real relationships with the guests, vendors, and even
potential clients. There is a lot of power in digital marketing, but it can only get you so far, at some point you will need to be able to take what you have done on the internet through digital marketing, and show how it helps events. I encourage you to invest in Stukent’s expert session videos, and spend the time learning how great a tool for Event Planners specifically, and for everyone else, digital and social media marketing really is!

So if you can’t tell from this picture, this is a replica of a cell. I ‘m not necessarily encouraging having a “cell” party, instead I want to use this cell as an example of planning an event. Now the big picture of this….. picture… is a cell. However, each little part of the cell is made of something that doesn’t have a real connection to most of the other pieces. For example, the main part of the cell is a tin bowl, and the thing in the middle is a foam ball that I surgically cut apart. In this cell I also used walnuts, macaroni noodles, spaghetti noodles, a headband, duct tape, string, rubber bands, beads, pepper, and more! I did this for a college biology class, where each of the students were required to make a cell replica and everyone did something very different. One girl used only Christmas decorations, another student used only edible items and a Ziploc bag! For the most part students didn’t lose points on their replica no matter how strange the replicas were so long as they had all the parts!
